Romantic Hawaiian Vacation Packages

Are you planning a romantic Hawaiian vacation? Will you be celebrating an anniversary or honeymoon in Hawaii?

Island Hop Hawaii Travel specializes in Hawaiian vacation packages and Hawaiian cruise packages. We are very experienced in planning romantic Hawaiian vacations, and are happy to offer you the following recommendations by island.

Romantic Hawaiian Vacation Packages (Oahu):

  1. The Moana Surfrider Hotel is our number one pick for a romantic vacation package on Oahu. It is a prominent figure in Waikiki, holding to its 1901 charm. The hotel has gone through many upgrades since that time. Although the Moana Surfrider Hotel is not an edgy, modern hotel, it is very impressive. At the Moana Surfrider, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time into old Hawaii, where the spirit of aloha lies.  The Moana Surfrider is literally on the beach at Waikiki. There is nothing more perfect than watching the sunset with your partner from the veranda of this landmark hotel.
  2. The Royal Hawaiian Hotel is known as the pink palace of Waikiki. Yes, the exterior of the hotel is literally, pink, but it has been that way since its opening in 1927. The Royal Hawaiian Hotel is a historical and prominent hotel in Waikiki that has recently undergone a total renovation. When you step into the hotel, you forget about the hussle and bussle going on down the main strip in Waikiki. It is a place for serenity and tranquility, with Waikiki beach literally right out the door.
  3. The Halekulani is also a historical hotel in Waikiki. Over 100 years ago, the Halekulani was born on the sands of Waikiki beach. This five-star hotel comes with five-star service. Situated on the beach at Waikiki, the Halekulani is a place for couples to escape and relax.

Romantic Hawaiian Vacation Packages (Maui):

  1. The Fairmont Kea Lani is a five star hotel on Maui. The Fairmont Kea Lani sets the standard for luxurious hotels on Maui. It is an all-suite hotel with marble bathrooms, a separate living area, and a furnished lanai (patio). The Fairmont Kea Lani is on a beautiful stretch of Wailea beach and encompasses over 22 acres of lush, tropical landscaping.
  2. The Maui Prince Hotel is at the edge of Wailea. This private resort has an exclusive crest-shaped beach fronting the property. All guest rooms at the Maui Prince hotel face the ocean.
  3. The Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa is a true Hawaiian getaway for couples. Located on Ka’anapali Beach, the Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa is privately situated on 27 acres of legendary Black Rock. A freshwater lagoon pool compliments the tropical gardens, as the lagoon pool meanders through waterfalls and lava rock formations.

Romantic Hawaiian Vacation Packages (Kauai):

  1. The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa is a five star resort on the garden isle. It boasts nearly 50 acres of tropical landscaping, overlooking Keonelua Bay in Poipu. Poipu has won numerous awards throughout the years as one of the best beaches in the world. With a world-class spa to relax and an amazing water-park meandering through the property, there is really no need to go outside of this hotel.
  2. The Sheraton Kauai Resort is an open-air, beachfront Kauai resort in sunny Poipu. This resort has the perfect backdrop, with the beach literally steps from your hotel room. The beach in front of the Sheraton Kauai is quiet and beauitful, perfect for snorkeling, sunbathing, and swimming. The service is wonderful, and you will always feel welcome.

Romantic Hawaiian Vacation Packages (Big Island):

  1. The Kona Village Resort is literally an island getaway. Take a step back in time and enjoy Hawaii at the Kona Village Resort. Guests have their own hale’s (house). Be forewarned that there are no modern amenities such as tv, air conditioning, or radios. The Kona Village Resort is designed for people to connect with each other. A romantic hotel at heart, it is also Hawaii’s only all-inclusive resort.
  2. The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is a romantic Hawaiian hotel. Recently re-opened, the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel combines elegance and class with true Hawaiian style. Sitting on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, the Mauna Kea Hotel is a great place for snorkeling during the day and stargazing at night. It is a slice of paradise for a romantic Hawaiian vacation.

Jellyfish Hawaii Oct 17
Hawaii Jellyfish Sign

Hawaii Jellyfish Sign

It is very common to see jellyfish in Hawaii. The most common type of jellyfish in Hawaii is box jellyfish. The appearance of jellyfish on Hawaii shores is usually predictable, as box jellyfish swarm the beaches about 7-12 days after a full moon. They come closer to shore during this time to breed. When there is an abundance of jellyfish in the area, signs are usually posted on the beach. The signs are similar to the one pictured on the left. These signs are warnings to visitors not to enter the water, because there is a risk of serious injury. In rare cases, some people are extremely sensitive to any venom stings. Just as some people react differently to insect bites and bee stings, some people will be more sensitive to jellyfish stings than other people are.

According to an article on first aid for jellyfish stings, the venom in some areas of the jellyfish contact may not have been released on immediate impact. Thus, the article recommends pouring vinegar over the jellyfish sting. Although this will not treat the immediate pain, it’s useful in preventing anything further from happening. For immediate pain, the article suggests icing the wound. In extreme situations, the article recommends seeking medical treatment as soon as possible.

The city and state takes a lot of precaution when it comes to jellyfish; however, don’t be alarmed if you still see people in the water. Many times, jellyfish warnings are not enough to keep people out of the water. There may also be times when there is no warning sign posted, because an influx of jellyfish is not expected. There are many creatures out in the ocean. Just as you would expect to find beautiful coral reefs and tropical fish, there are also jellyfish out there. Take caution and be prepared….just in case.

Kona Coffee Oct 12
Kona Coffee Beans

Kona Coffee Beans

Did you know…any coffee you buy that is labeled as Kona coffee must contain at least 10% Kona Coffee? The word “Kona” refers to coffee that is grown in Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii.

The annual Kona Coffee Festival will be held next month, between November 6-15, 2009. If you will be in town, you’ll experience the oldest food festival in Hawaii. The coffee trees have been in Kona for almost 180 years! The first coffee plant made it’s way to Kona around 1829. It was planted by missionary Samuel Ruggles. Today, Hawaii is the only state in the U.S. that grows coffee.

Coffee lovers unite! The schedule for this year’s festival includes coffee brewing competitions, coffee tasting, a coffee picking contest, and a farm and mill tour.  Large businesses within the Kona community pull together to put on a week full of entertainment, including a lantern parade, concerts, concerts, and scholarship pageants.

If you won’t be able to make it out to this year’s coffee festival, you are still welcome to tour many of the coffee farms in Kona. The  Kona Le’a Farm advertises free tours and sampling on their website.

For more information on the Kona Coffee Festival, please visit the official website for the Kona Coffee Festival

Hawaii Travel Secrets

Hawaii Travel Secret #1: “When is the best time to book travel to Hawaii?” The answer…probably today.

That may seem like a sales pitch, but in the truth of the matter is that in the travel industry time is money. All too often, I have helped clients who played the “waiting” game. They either waited for the airfare to drop or the hotels to run new promotions. Their idea of pinching a few pennies ended up costing them hundreds of dollars more.

Hawaii Travel Secret #2: As far as airfare is concerned, this is the general rule of thumb: As lower fares sell out, the airlines will bump fares up to the next class of service.

If you want the lower fares, book as early as possible. This is especially true, now that most airlines are battling it out for your money. It’s no secret the travel industry was hit hard with the recession. This can only mean fewer seats in those lower classes of service. Due to the economic recession, airlines are cutting seats entirely.

Sometimes I get clients who want to book a little too early. The airines usually release flights about 300 days prior to departure. That’s less than a year. If you’re reading this post and thinking about planning a vacation a year from today, chances are the airlines haven’t even coordinated a fligth schedule yet.

“That’s not true. I got an awesome deal last year on ABC Airlines. They ran a promotion a month or two before my travel date.” True. Sometimes the airlines need to fill up seats to a minimum. Think about it: Would an airline really fly only a handful of passengers? They’d spend more staffing the plane with pilots, attendants, fuel and food. The passengers would either be bumped to another flight, or the airlines could run promotions to simply profit on the flight. However, the airlines is not required to run promotions, and waiting for one is a gamble. Don’t pinch your pennies, when it will cost you hundreds of dollars more in the end.

Hawaii Travel Secret #3: Hotel promotions….Are they really worth it?

As a mom of two, I am determined to make my dollar stretch as far as possible. When it comes to hotel promotions, I compare and do the math. Hotels may advertise a 3 night package with dining and spa treatments included, but it’s more than likely that it is, in most cases, less expensive to book the lowest available rate in that room category, with the 3rd night free, than to buy in to the package deal that hotels put together. Rest assured, I do my math before I quote you. On the other hand, some people are willing to pay a little more in the “package deal,” to simply save them the time and hassle of doing it on their own.

Hawaii Travel Secret #4: Travel agents are in it for your money.

Certainly, running a travel agency is my business. Like any other business that wants to stay open, we need to make money at it. Now, I certainly don’t make millions of dollars selling travel. I chose to open this travel agency for two reasons. Number one: Helping people plan their vacations is my passion. Number two: I have kids. I was tired of the 9-5 grind, and I was tired of the guilt trips I’d give myself if I picked the kids up late or missed another field trip. I wanted to build a business that worked around my life, instead of working at one that determined my life.

Unlike many of our competitors, Island Hop Hawaii does not charge an agency fee. We accept only standard commissions from our wholesalers. These wholesalers do not work with the general public. They work only with certified travel agencies. This is a win-win situation, because the wholesalers can focus on literally getting the best rates possible, giving travel agents business. How do YOU know that we don’t charge an agency fee? Simple. We let our wholesalers process your credit card. The wholesalers are then responsible for paying us a mere fraction of what they earn, because we did the leg work in selling their vacation packages.

Take advantage of the incredible deals and promotions that many Hawaii hotels are running. The truth of the matter is they would rather have your business than not have it at all. Hotels have reduced rates and extended promotions, in hopes of attracting more guests.

Less people at the resort means more room for you to spread out on the beach. Many hotels are currently running free upgrade promotions, free nights, and generous discounts for hotel services and restuarants. Now is the time to take advantage of these savings.

Waikiki Zoo Oct 12
The Honolulu Zoo (Waikiki, Oahu)

The Honolulu Zoo (Waikiki, Oahu)

I  took my children to the zoo this past weekend, and we had quite an adventure! The Honolulu Zoo is definitely not the biggest zoo around, nor is it the newest. It is small, but just the right size for an island.

My favorite exhibit at the zoo was the ostrich, because I got to see it pee! I have never seen an ostrich pee (remember…born and raised in Hawaii), and I found it very intriguing. For those of you who have not had the privilege of witnessing such an experience, it was almost like watching a horse do his thing.

My kids loved the Keiki (children’s) Zoo. They were able to play with the goats and pet the sheep. They crawled through a giant fish tank, and crawled through a guinea pig path. There was even a garden area and llama, sheep, and cow station.

There were some animals who were “on vacation,” but the love notes from the zookeeper excused their absences. At the elephant exhibit, there was a love note from the zookeeper that gave a little insight into the new habitat they zoo will be building for the elephants. In the new exhibit, the elephants will have more room to roam and even swimming pools to keep them cool in the tropical heat! I can’t wait to check that out.

On the African Savannah walk, we looked for giraffes, zebras, rhinos, and ostriches. Unfortunately, the hippos and crocodiles were sleeping, but we were able to meet Puanani, a 15 month old warthog. She is a new addition to the Honolulu Zoo. The love note from the zookeeper indicated she gets frightened easy. The kids and I waited for the crowd to pass at her exhibit, and before we knew it, she finally stepped out of her cave.

In all, we spent a good few hours at the zoo today. It was nice to get outdoors and take some new photos, but it was even nicer enjoying the peace and quiet after a fun-filled morning.

The Honolulu Zoo Society is located on Oahu. Physical location is:

151 Kapahulu Ave
Honolulu, HI 96815-4096
